BUTTER ISLAND PICNIC

Wednesday, July 24, 2024

11 a.m. DIYC Dock

The Annual Butter Island Picnic has been a highlight of mid-summer for DIYC families and guests for more than 60 years. The 310-acre island lies three miles west of Sylvester Cove, beckoning sailors, motor boaters, and paddlers to pack lunch and a swimsuit to meet on Nubble Beach. A quick climb up Monserrat Hill offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of Penobscot Bay. Butter Island is among one of the largest islands within the Maine Island Trail Association. We thank owner Rob Cabot and his family for welcoming us onto the island. Bring your own boat, or meet on the DIYC float around 11 a.m. to hitch a ride.

Need a boat ride over to Butter Island?

This year we will coordinate with members’ boats. If interested, please contact Kate Caldwell or Bo Hagler (details below) with the number of passengers needed!

Bo Hagler at bo.hagler@gmail.com or Kate Caldwell at katehcaldwell39@comcast.net

Please remember; no dogs are allowed on the island and use is limited to Nubble Beach, Orchard Beach and a hill between the two on the eastern shore of the island.
